Iron arc arc welding (GMAW), or Arc welding is a process of welding used to combine iron and steel through electricity to
generate enough heat to dissolve iron, and dissolved metals when cool leads to iron
bonding. It is a type of welding that uses electrical welding to create an electric arc between
the metal rod ("electrode") and the base material to melt the metal in the contact area. Arc
welders can use direct electronics (DC) or alternating current (AC), and neither cheap nor
expensive.
The metal enclosure is usually protected by some form of protective gas, vapor or slag.
