Stainless steel continues to gain popularity in applications carried out across the
construction industry, mainly due to its corrosion resistance, strength and toughness.
Compared to mild steel, however, material does present some challenges for welding,
especially experienced welders. Stainless steel can be three to five times more expensive
than mild steel; any welding fault may incur the total cost of recycling.
Choosing the right heating process is important. There is a giving and taking of every option,
and there is no single process that offers the perfect solution. To determine the best option,
manufacturers need to look at the high cost and characteristics of filler metal, required
production, mechanical flexibility, and a set of operator capabilities.
